Beyond Tourism

Green Planet & Mondo Verde Expeditions are very proud to be able to offer assistance to worthwhile causes. We feel that it is time for sustainable-tourism to take the next step in actively participating in the lives of the people we visit. Helping to paint a school, digging a well, donating money, or simply taking the time to talk to the people we visit are some of the many ways we can help achieve this goal.

On our television and in our newspapers we are constantly bombarded with negative news, which often shows the worse side of human beings. Well, we know that there is another side of people, a more hopeful side that shows people are capable of greatness. There are wonderful things happening in the world and we want to be involved with them. To this end we help support many worthwhile projects in the places we visit. Here is a list of a few of the programs we are committed to.

Tanzania:
Fikiria Kwanza School

Fikiria Kwanza School in Arusha, Tanzania. Started by a poor farmer who felt that as he did better in his life, he should give back to the children of his community. When he was left a large section of land he founded Fikiria Kwanza School. A constant work in progress, the school now host over a hundred children, some of them orphans with no place else to go. With the help of one of our concerned guests we have raised thousands of dollars to help the school.

Brazil: Through our contributions we have provided the School with 100% of the books used for classes.

Southern Africa: Through our contributions, we have raised thousands of dollars for Children in Wilderness. Children in the Wilderness is dedicated to helping children whose childhoods have been interrupted and disrupted by life threatening conditions such as illness, poverty and the HIV/Aids epidemic. Using environmental education, therapeutic recreation and good old-fashioned fun, Children in the Wilderness exposes children to new opportunities, increases their self-esteem, builds and strengthens their capabilities to cope with life's challenges and educates them with the life skills necessary to actualize their greatest potential. Amazonia:
El Bosque de los Niños Carbon Offset Partner
The Forest of the Children, (BONI) is a program of integrated education, health, community development and cultural recuperation for the Amazonía that is being implemented in the communities of Los Amigos and Sonene in the Madre de Dios and in Las Bambas in Apurimac. BONI believes that childhood coexists with nature and through its association with Association for Childhood and Atmosphere (ANIA), promotes this concept with their "Earth To Grow" program. we are proud to support BONI/ANIA¹s pilot program in Los Amigos where children are learning to manage land officially given to them by adults of the community. Through an investigative and action oriented methodology, the children learn to read, write, use mathematical concepts and think critically, while acquiring the knowledge and skills to manage their land in a sustainable manner.

MAD (Making A Difference) CHALLENGES
We organize and promote travel programs, which raise awareness for issues important to our clients and community partners. Travelers take an active role pre and post challenge, raising awareness while you train and when you return home to bask in an adventure well done. We especially like to highlight the work of people creating positive change while addressing thorny global issues such as habitat loss and climate change, social unrest and economic prosperity or health of body and mind. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in one of our planned MAD Challenges or designing a custom MAD Challenge for your cause.
